Summary[]
The annual UFO Convention is coming up in Roswell, and many well-known guests are arriving. One such guest is Everett Hubble, someone whom Sheriff Valenti definitely does not like. Hubble is considered an expert in extra-terrestrial theory, and was a friend of Valenti's father. Milton tries to get Max to convince Hubble to speak at the convention, something which he never does.
Michael continues to try and distance himself from Maria, but when her mother's alien-themed wresting match for the convention goes awry with one of the wrestlers quitting, Michael steps in inpromtu, and gets virtually destroyed by his opponent. This leads Amy to adore Michael, and Maria to kiss him, although Michael is quick to play the kiss off, to Maria's dismay.
Meanwhile, Hubble talks to Valenti about the night that made his father lose his badge, when he shot an innocent man who he apparently believed to be an alien. Having heard some disquieting things about Max Evans, Hubble manages to get Valentit o tell him what he knows about Max. While Max is working, Hubble tells him he'd like to speak at the convention, but first he'd like Max to give him a quick ride to his place and back.
At the same time, Valenti deduces that it was not, in fact, his father who shot that man that night, but Hubble, and hurries to catch up to them. Hubble makes Max pull over at an old gas station, where he recounts the night that his wife was murdered by what turned out to be an alien which laid it's hand on her and left a handprint just like Max did on Liz. Believing Max to be the same alien, just like he believed the innocent man to be all those years ago, he turns his gun on Max just as Michael encounters the two, but Valenti shows up just in time, and shoots Hubble.
Max knows Hubble only knew what he knew because of Valenti, and he berates him for his constant suspicion and investigation, putting him in danger, when, as the sheriff, he should be protecting him. An obviously shaken Valenti tells the two of them to get out of the area, and that the "were never here." As Max leaves, he speaks to Michael of his concerns that the alien they're looking for is not only a shapeshifter, but apparently a cold-blooded killer.
